Audiences

Audiences decide who should see a generated experience.

AudienceDescription
Default visitorA general audience for a widget or surface. Useful for global widgets and fallbacks.
CustomerA specific Shopify customer selected from the Audiences search.
CohortA group of customers — a manual cohort built from a Shopify customer tag, or an AI smart cohort that segments customers automatically.

The Customers table in Audiences lets you search by name, email, or tag. Each customer row shows order count, amount spent, and surface coverage.

Use customer audiences when:

  • You want a one-to-one generated widget.
  • You are testing with a known customer account.
  • You want to create a high-touch experience for an important shopper.

Customer-specific generation can use customer profile signals such as spend, order count, Shopify customer tags, and recent order context when available.

Cohorts are group audiences. WandStore supports two kinds:

  • Manual (tag) cohorts read a Shopify customer tag and use customers with that tag as the audience. WandStore does not maintain a separate customer list — membership follows the tag.
  • Smart cohorts are AI-segmented. WandStore groups your customers from raw signals (spend, orders, recency, email eligibility, and more), writes a customer tag for the group, and membership then follows that tag.

Use cohorts when:

  • The group already exists in Shopify through tags.
  • You want one campaign concept for many shoppers.
  • You want to target VIPs, wholesale customers, launch buyers, subscription customers, regional groups, or seasonal campaign lists represented by a tag.
  1. In Shopify admin, add a shared customer tag to the customers you want in the cohort, such as spring-vip, wholesale, or winback-may.
  2. Open Apps > WandStore > Audiences.
  3. In Create cohort, enter a name and optional description.
  4. Choose the Shopify customer tag.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Open Studio and choose that cohort as the audience.

If no tags appear, create or sync customer tags in Shopify first, then reopen the cohort form.

Audiences shows whether a customer or cohort already has homepage or widget experiences. Coverage badges help you see:

  • Whether any versions exist.
  • Whether widget coverage exists.
  • Whether live widget coverage exists.
  • When the latest version was generated.

Use this before generating another version, especially when several widgets exist on the same theme page.

Campaigns target an audience too — and can pick one with AI, reuse a cohort (including smart cohorts), or use a Shopify tag. See Campaign Audiences & Cohorts.
